Having sick kiddos and very little sleep for the last 3 nights has slowed me down tremendously. Barring a secondary sinus infection, everyone appears to be on the mend. I think I even saw a couple of the kids SMILE at each other!
How is your menu planning coming along? Because of my family’s illness, I have decided to put off finishing up my weekly menus until late next week. Make sure and share your menus and any recipe conversions you are making in our Facebook group. We are each other’s best resource!
As I am finalizing my grocery list, one question lingers. Should I invest in any Whole30 specialty items? In the spirit of no-spend January, I think my answer is no. In the interest of sticking to my existing budget, I will be foregoing the Larabars, Aidell’s Chicken and Apple Sausage, and Pederson’s Bacon. I will be buying some things to snack on, though!
In a general sense, Whole30 recommends avoiding snacking, but, we all know that occasions happen where we need something to hold us over until the next meal. My family will be sticking with apples and almond butter, dried or frozen fruits (my kids love frozen fruit straight out of the freezer!), celery and almond butter with raisins on top (ants on a log), and dried coconut/nuts/dried fruit. I carry raisins and almonds in a Ziploc in the diaper bag for just such an occasion!
When choosing your Whole30 snacks, don’t forget to make sure that they have
- No added sugar or artificial sweeteners
- No alcohol
- No grains
- No legumes
- No dairy
Back to finishing up my grocery list. Is yours done? Have you shopped for next week yet?
