Good Sunday afternoon, ya’ll! Lots of new info to come!
First, I want to apologize for the craziness that was our last food pick up. Because I decided to try an organics order with River City Produce again, a new milk supplier, and a different pick up location, I created a lot of unintentional chaos. On a positive note, we were blessed with 48 lbs. of strawberries at $1 less per pound than I was expecting. The down side was that the apples, green onions, and lemons ended up costing significantly more than I expected they should and we ended up with multiple pick up days.
Regarding the unexpected increases in several of the items’ pricesI was going to reject the more expensive items, but after talking it through with the River City Produce (RC) rep, I understood that RC would most likely not be able to resell the items I rejected. I desire to be able to continue ordering specialty items, so it ended up being in our best interest as a group to accept the items (although I did work it out so that we paid RC’s cost for the items). I did pass along a small percentage of the increased cost to you, but in the end I lost money on the order as a whole. I will do my best to keep this from happening again. I have joked often this week that I am learning 5000 ways not to run a food group. 🙂
The items that increased in cost (reflected as projected cost/actual cost) were green onions (.75/1.00), lemons (1.50/2.00), and apples (2.15/2.60). It was certainly a learning experience.
Part 1 of next week’s order is open now. I have to get my order in to River City Produce by the end of this week and don’t want to over-order like I did last time. Part 1 orders are due by Wednesday at midnight. Order your organic items here.
Part 2 of the order form will open later in the week. Part 2 will include items from Peralta Farms. I am going to try and pick up both orders on the same day. For now, pick up day is up in the air.
