I have made it 12 days sugar, grain, legume, and dairy free! This last week and a half hasn’t been without it’s challenges, but I’m making it. I have even exercised every day except today! I am happy to be free of the crazy bondage that I was in to soda and sweets. I don’t spend all day every day bouncing back and forth between sugar rush and sugar crash. My brain isn’t foggy and my joints don’t ache. Even my kids say that they can see a difference.
What was the catalyst to me trying to give up soda again so soon after I promised myself I would wait a while? As I perused Facebook late a couple of Sundays nights ago, I noticed a post about a Whole30 challenge group that a friend posted. Interest piqued, I sent my friend a message and asked for details. She gave me a quick rundown of what she has been eating since she started Whole30 several months ago and it sounded like it was exactly what I have been searching for! Her diet included things like roast, carrots, and potatoes, beef stew with cabbage, and scrambled eggs and bacon for breakfast. Count me in! I PayPal’ed my entry fee to her and jumped in with both feet the next day.
Unfortunately, my little Silas has been a casualty of war as I battle my food demons. In spite of eating a what I thought was a fairly healthy diet, I experienced some mildly intense detox symptoms. The result was that my little Silas was cranky, cranky, cranky! Even after my detox symptoms abated, Silas remained high-strung and cranky. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together until a couple of days ago. I started paying attention to his behaviour when I was nursing him. It quickly became apparent that I had a low milk supply (sorry for the TMI). I have wrestled with what to do with that knowledge the last couple of days and have decided to continue trudging on with my Whole30. I am making sure and nursing him more often and drinking more water. Today things seem to be a little better.
What are you doing to improve your health? Have you been exercising? Are you drinking enough water? Because I am enjoying the challenge group so much, I am contemplating starting a challenge group of my own when I take the rest of my family through Whole30. Would you be interested in joining? Leave me a message below and I’ll contact you when I have the details ironed out.
